First Night Northampton Turns 40 Years Old!

On Tuesday, December 31st, the Northampton Arts Council and Greenfield Savings Bank welcome you to the 40th anniversary of our city-wide New Year’s Eve party. Since 1985, First Night Northampton has filled the Paradise City with a 12-hour, family-friendly festival of the arts culminating in a traditional ball-raising from the roof of the Hotel Northampton. This event celebrates our community, bringing together friends, neighbors, and visitors at over twenty terrific downtown venues for an astounding array of entertainment presented by hundreds of talented performers. The City of Northampton, generous local sponsors, and dedicated volunteers support our efforts. One hundred percent of proceeds benefit community arts.

Fireworks at 6:15 PM top off the afternoon of family-friendly entertainment and signal the start of the evening entertainment. The City of Northampton hosts a fabulous fireworks display that lights up the sky from the roof of the EJ Gare Central Parking Garage. You can see the fireworks from all over town.  After that, the festivities continued with diverse offerings.

Later, it’s time to gather at the Hotel Northampton for the iconic raising of the ball. Steve Sanderson of WRSI will host the Midnight Countdown with a second-midnight fireworks display from the roof of the Hotel Northampton and dancing in the streets!

With just one bargain-priced button, you can access every event at every venue, making it convenient for you to enjoy the entire festival. These buttons are available for purchase early at local vendors or online, ensuring you can plan your visit in advance and make the most of the festival.
