Zea Mays Printmaking Celebrates 25th Anniversary with Open House
Florence, MA – Zea Mays Printmaking, the fine-art printmaking studio, research facility and education center that has called Florence home since opening in 2000, will hold a Community Celebration and Open House on Sunday, June 1 st . It is the first of several events the family-run business will hold to celebrate twenty-five years of operation.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature hands-on art stations, where participants of all ages can experiment with beginner-friendly methods of non-toxic printmaking. There will also be guided tours of the studio, demonstrations from faculty and members, and an art exhibit in the studio’s on-site gallery. “We are so happy to be marking a quarter-century of being in business, and we’re inviting our local community here in Western Massachusetts to celebrate with us,” says Liz Chalfin, Zea Mays Printmaking’s founder, co-owner and studio director. “This is a great chance for folks who have not visited us before to drop in, learn about what we do, and have some fun making art with their neighbors.”
The theme of the event is “Healing Garden,” with emphasis being placed on the use of local plants that are appreciated for their beauty and medicinal properties, and on printmaking methods that are safer for artists and the environment. Attendees will have the option of contributing to a large community print centered around this theme, in addition to creating their own individual prints to take home.
Other events Zea Mays Printmaking has planned to celebrate their anniversary include an exhibition at the University Museum of Contemporary Arts at UMASS Amherst in September 2025, and a fundraising gala at the Smith College Conference Center on April 11, 2026.
The Zea Mays Printmaking 25 th Anniversary Community Celebration and Open House will take place at 320 Riverside Drive, Florence, MA, on June 1 st , 2025, from 10 AM to 3 PM.
